I had a great experience. I had a goitre which had grown and was making it uncomfortable for me to breath at times. Mr Kirkby-Bott was so thorough in examination/ investigations and explanations. I found his direct and careful explanation and patience very reassuring. I felt completely informed of my options and felt very confident in his recommendation re the surgery ( partial thyroidectomy). He took the time to explain every question and concern I had, which was incredibly reassuring and eased my anxieties. I had previously been very concerned about the possibility of surgery. Having the surgery for me was the best thing I have done. I felt the difference for me almost immediately, it made the biggest difference to me, my breathing completely normal now and my confidence is no longer affected by having this large goitre. I am extremely happy with the results, the scar is so neat, and 5 months post surgery it has faded a lot, I am so pleased with it. After surgery I had a mild croaky voice for about a week, then totally unrelated to the surgery I got covid which prolonged the croaky voice. Mr Kirkby-Bott had no hesitation in referring me for a consultation with Professor Patel ENT to check my vocal chords when I said I was concerned. This appointment happened very quickly and reassured me that my voice was not damaged by the surgery. My voice is completely normal. I have found Mr Kirkby-Bott to be excellent re any communication, questions or concerns from my first appointment right through surgery and with any follow up since. The best thing about seeing Mr Kirkby-Bott is that I was originally so very anxious about having this surgery but I can say for me, this is the best thing I could of done.

Mr Kirkby-Bott performed an inguinal hernia repair for me in mid 2022. I sought private surgery for a number of reasons, including: - the length of the NHS waiting list (I was told to expect >2 years), - the negative impact on both my physical and mental health (caused by the hernia) - the fact that I could research and select a surgeon with the requisite expertise AND experience I compiled a spreadsheet of surgeons using multiple criteria; Mr Kirkby-Bott stood-out -- highly-experienced in hernia repair; an award-winning surgeon; a novel repair technique, and an unrivalled website (in the UK at least) providing a plethora of useful information about hernias (including the practical benefits of wearing hernia underwear -- such underwear considerably eased my pain pre-surgery). From initial contact with Mr Kirkby-Bott and his team, everything was positive and - in my opinion - they went above-and-beyond by arranging for me to have a pre-surgery assessment at a local hospital, rather than having me travel to Southampton (from Glasgow). My time in hospital was a pleasure (I jest not - I remember talking and laughing with staff many times and, shamefully, felt as if I was treated like royalty). Since recovering (swiftly), my quality of life has been immeasurably better. I can swing my children round and share in their joy. The only negative - and I say this firmly tongue-in-cheek of course - is that I haven't been able to find a buyer for my hernia pants on Ebay but, upon reflection, perhaps it's remiss of me to attempt to part with them given the suffering they eased. Attempts at levity aside, my experience was nothing but positive and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mr Kirkby-Bott and his team. I remain immensely grateful.

I consulted Mr Kirby- Bott with an uncomfortable hernia , with particular concern that I would be traveling overseas for some long periods over the following 3 months - he diagnosed the condition and we discussed surgical options , then jointly developed a clinical plan that accounted for my travel plans - he proposed to schedule surgery between 2 of my planned trips that would then allow suitable time for recovery . Following the consultation ,I felt very reassured and also found excellent information on the Hernia Clinic website - I followed all the advice both pre/ post surgery including using the recommended hernia pants - post surgery I experienced minimal pain and recovered well having followed all recommendations The administration team were professional , very responsive and made everything easy for me

Overall the care and treatment I received was excellent, stress free and very prompt but, in my opinion, was very expensive. I used my own money as a private payment for treatment that should have been available promptly via the NHS. I think even greater emphasis could be give the the benefits of hernia pants in relief of symptoms before surgery.

Thank you very much for your feedback. We are delighted to hear that your experience was excellent. We are glad to hear about the use of hernia pants helping to relieve your symptoms prior to surgery. Once we observed this in our patient feedback we negotiated a discount for our patients as an extra benefit which we hope you enjoyed. We have previously offered this service on the NHS but sadly this is no longer funded. The surgery package for regular hernia inguinal hernia under local anaesthetic and sedation is now around £3100 which largely is the private hospital fee which unfortunately they have been unable to reduce. We hope you are now enjoying all the benefits from your having your surgery done within weeks of contacting us.

My hernia problem started October 21. Diagnosed by a consultant in February 22 as a femoral hernia. I faced a long wait for surgery repair due to concern over the use of general anesthetic with my ongoing cardiac AF condition. In late May, a Friday evening emergency A&E visit and painful manipulation by a duty surgeon prompted me to look for a private alternative. I found Mr. Kirkby-Bott on-line, the Hernia Clinic website was so informative explaining his innovative work on hernia day surgery for all ages and all health conditions. The best decision ever for removing stress, the speed with which things progressed was brilliant the surgery completed by the second week of June. Mr. Kirkby-Bott clearly explained the procedure and the anesthetist reassured me about the local anesthetic and sedation, and how to make best use of the take home medication. I followed the medical team advice to the letter, only using the strong tablets for the first 4 nights to aid sleep, I am pleased 8 weeks on to be feeling energized, back to my normal activities and planning to rejoin my Pilates class for the new term in September. Thank you to Mr. Kirkby-Bott for his skill and to the team for their diligence and excellent care.
